What is a tinycam? Ok, so I wanted to see what a digital camera was like. I bought the Sakar iconcepts model 69152, a shirtpocket size combo webcam and digital still camera. 5 inches by 1/2 inch by 1 inch. I got it only for the digital camera feature. |

First, picture quality - what could I expect? see the picture of the dog "Gripper" to get an idea of what kind of quality you can expect from a digital camera. |
OK quality I guess, and 27 fotos at 320x240 isn't so bad, but the size of the camera was too big - it was just too long. Two inches of the length was the powerplant - two AAA batteries. I started toying with the idea of making the camera twice as thick and half as long, by rebuilding the camera case so that the two AAA batteries would be behind the camera. |

While I was thinking about the battery size, the thought occured to me that lithium energy cell technology had come a long way recently. A three hour project... |
I thought about it and it came to me - I don't take pictures at night, or even most of the day! Usually, I take pictures and soon thereafter I USB them to the PC! Yes, the camera was going to get an on/off switch for the battery! Back to the shack for a micro toggle switch - and straight back to the basement. A little more superglue, some soilder, some exacto knife work on the case, and bingo! An on/off switch connected to the positive side of the battery for greatly reduced operating cost and extended battery life! Some more exacto knife work on the holder and the power switch on the camera was easily accessible with a stylus or ballpoint pen. I am very happy with my camera. Oh yes, it has a piezo buzzer to let you know that the shutter opened, but it also has an LED on the back for the same purpose - yep, the piezo buzzer is history!
